The Art of Personal Branding: Painting your Masterpiece

We are all Painting our Masterpiece whether we consciously know it or not.  It is time to pay attention to the elements of the greatest work you or I will ever create. That work is to define ourselves and create our own vision for our life.

This past week I had the honor of sharing my thoughts on Personal Branding for the Young Affiliates of the Mint Museum. This is an amazing group of up and coming Young Professionals that are patrons of the local Museum.

The phrase “Personal Branding” has become somewhat of a catch phrase and [...]

Opportunities and Success

By admin On January 8, 2013 · Add Comment

How many opportunities have I missed because I just wasn’t paying attention to the world around me?  I can think of a handful right off the bat and there is no telling what opportunities I missed and had no clue!

Scary.

If we are going to grow and succeed in our current roles or if we are looking for a new career, it all boils down to identifying the opportunity. How do we do this?

I recently presented to a group of volunteer student coaches and their student coachee’s on  the importance of being aware of opportunities and how that awareness is connected to success.

The first step is to be able to see the opportunity [...]

Chopped!! And Amazing in 2013

By admin On December 30, 2012 · 1 Comment

So many of us are using this time between Christmas and New Years to reflect on 2012 and plan for 2013 and I am no different.

During a break from the hard work of reflection and planning (goal setting is not easy), I was watching the Food Network. I happened upon the show Chopped. This is the reality cooking show where the participants are experienced Chefs and given a basket of the most random ingredients you have ever seen and tasked with putting together a meal using each ingredient.

The show I was watching had only four ingredients in the basket: Squab (that is a little bird that looks like a quail), Kale, Peanut Butter [...]

What is “The Element” and how do I find it?

By admin On October 30, 2012 · 2 Comments

I was recently re-reading one of the most informative books on finding the right fit in your career and in life choices – The Element: How finding your passion changes everything by Sir Ken Robinson, Ph.D. Sir Ken Robinson is most famous for his Ted Talk about education and the need for reformation.

But what is the element and better yet, how do I find it? Sir Robinson states that the Element is the point in time when your natural gifts, personality and passion meet and become aligned. People who have found their Element find themselves doing things that they love and when doing them they feel they are their most authentic self. This is exactly how [...]

Personality – The Choice (or Decision Making) Connection

As adults we are all faced with making decisions each and every day and we have years of experience in making these decisions.   When it comes to the younger generation that are completing high school and looking at choices for their future, these decisions are not so easy.   Some of these decisions are small and really have very little impact on the big picture of our ives, such as buying a cup of coffee or just making one at home. However, some decisions can have an impact on about every facet of our lives.  Decisions about relationships, choice of college, course of study, and careers fall into this [...]

What do you wish you knew when you were 18 that you know now?

By admin On April 28, 2011 · Add Comment

I have been asked several times lately, “What do you wish you knew when you were 18 that
you know now?”  The answer comes quickly for me.  I don’t even waist a breath or a
pause in typing my response.

I wish I had known who I really was!  I went off to college and changed my major 7 times.  I
actually changed colleges about 5 times and even spent a year in law school.  All of this change and frustration came about because I really didn’t know who I was.   What was my personality?  What was a great fit for how I was hardwired?  What
were my strengths, talents, gifts [...]
